Product Guide - Shower Enclosures
There are three ingredients to the enclosed shower - the mixing valve, the tray and the enclosure
itself.
A shower enclosure is a fixed or hinged glass or styrene with aluminium profiles mounted around a
shower tray or bath utilising the wall to make a watertight showering facility. An enclosure consists
of either a door and a side panel or two sliding doors. The exception to this is the Walk-In enclosure
that provides an adaptation of the wet-bathroom look for the British bathroom.
There are numerous shower enclosures available in bathrooms in one such as those from Kudos, Niagara
and Manhattan, offering different types of enclosures. These include 'designer' led shower enclosures
wet room enclosures, walk in enclosures, and basic shapes of enclosure.
From the likes of Kudos, Niagara and Manhattan, you will find a number of framed and semi frameless
enclosure styles and shapes. Quadrant enclosures, curved enclosures, Pentagra enclosures, bow front
enclosures, walk-in enclosures Bi-Fold enclosures, sliding door enclosures hinge and pivot door shower enclosures and wet rooms are all available.
The amount of space that is available in a shower-room or en-suite will often be the most important
factor that determines which shower tray and enclosure is suitable. Whether the customer simply wants
a shower door to convert an alcove into a shower enclosure, a two or three sided square enclosure,
or a different shaped, curved, angled or rectangular; with the vast array of products available most
shapes can be accommodated, provided a suitable shower tray is available.
Product development has resulted in a vast choice of shapes and sizes being available providing the
consumer with a choice of design. There are numerous types of shower enclosures available ranging
from special geometric shapes such as the quadrant and pentangle versions to corner entry enclosures,
sliding and pivot (all available from Kudos, Manhattan and Niagara). If "off the shelf" products are
not suitable for your needs then some manufacturers offer a bespoke service.
A common alternative to fitting a shower enclosure and tray is to install the shower over the
existing bath, and provide a bath screen that is compatible for the shower. Different bath screens
from Manhattan, Kudos and Niagara are designed for particular baths or water pressures. When a power
shower is installed over a bath it is vital that a power shower rated bath screen or enclosure is
specified. For an instant shower or a normal mixer shower a single panel screen should suffice but
cannot guarantee to keep all spray within the bath.
Shower Trays
There are a number of different types of shower tray e.g. ceramic, cast resin stone, acrylic and GRP. Some trays have
adjustable leg sets whilst others are bedded directly onto a flat and even floor. In Bathrooms
in one shower trays are available from Manhattan, Kudos and Niagara.
